Why do Psychologists need to keep on training?

Psychologists are obligated to regularly undergo the continuous professional development.
People ask,
‘What do you actually learn about?’

Actually this is a very good question for all practitioners.
The essence of the question is not just about the ‘What’, but more importantly the
‘Why’.

Why do we keep on learning?
I realize this is much about doing well in my job role.
Working in the hospital,
I recognize that I am always working in a team and an institutional system.
The toughest challenge at work is never about the toughest patient case.
Many would agree with me that it is the more underlying and unspoken issues –
staff communication, professional hierarchy, inner politics…

The irony is,
we spend thousands of dollars to train ourselves to treat the others.
We always think it is the problem with the patients.
How often do we really focus on ourselves.
Would we admit and really work on our own problems?
There is a danger that,
we are too busy planting our own trees,
and not realize that the branches have obscure the view of the sky.

I hope we can step outside the comfort zone and address changes we need to make ourselves.
If we expect so much from the patients on change,
do the same if not more on ourselves.
I hope to send warm encouragements to everyone today.
