The Hope in Life

In my stay in Hong Kong,
I heard my old friends’ updates of their lives.
Living in a populated city is not easy at all.
Traditionally getting a property is
a ‘must do’ for a secure future, only
Hong Kong housing tops the world ranking.
The living standard gets higher and higher,
but the salary and harsh working conditions remain unchanged.

There is no quality of life.
People only wish for less suffering.
There is limited tolerance for people with additional needs.
Every expenditure or investment is about minimizing cost and maximizing the outcomes.
The underprivileged and the minority are
further marginalized and silenced.

I was touched by my friends who continue to show how ‘life goes on’.
In adversity or limited choice, they continue to work hard in their ways.
‘I don’t lead a perfect life, but I live to the fullest.’
‘I am not there (the goal) yet, but I’m moving towards it.’
‘I don’t know why I’m so feisty at work, but that’s how I work hard.’

Their growth are the different bitter-sweet stories I learn from.
Wisdom lies within the ordinary but the most relatable lives.
And then it is shared from one to another.
This is the power of human connection.
