The complexity of hope (In the workplace)

Hope is a very vague and subjective topic.
I find it tricky to bring this to my workplace.
The more I learn,
the more I realize the complexity of hope.

I work with patients on their understanding of their diagnosed antisocial personality traits,
personality disorders or schizophrenia;
and also encourage them to progress and move on.
Say, how can you talk to an ex-offender with schizophrenia, who has been living in locked institutions for more than a decade, to successfully lead an independent living, get a job and find a stable relationship?

The tricky thing about hope is not what it is,
but how it reflects hopelessness within an individual.
And that’s how people get stuck and turn away from hope,
because somehow motivation is lost.
Perhaps the start comes from nothing about discipline or rules,
rather showing listening and respect.
Perhaps hope doesn’t have to start from big but the small positive.

Perhaps the beauty of psychology work is much more than the professional competence.
From telling the patient what to do,
I learn to step back.
From drawing structural clinical schedule,
I learn to be more patient and adaptive.

Communication starts from changes from both persons,
including me.
