Dealing with difference

We dislike difference.
Backing off, being indifferent, judging…
We react by closing our openness door.
We try to find reasons to distance ourselves from the situation.

We close our minds to newness and changes.
We choose to see unfamiliarity or negativity as a threat instead of an opportunity.
We defend ourselves from leaving the comfort zone.

Human segregation occurs without genuineness and care.
We justify our indifference with forceful politeness, and reject connections outside rules and responsibilities.

And yet
We overestimate our rational objective minds. We react emotionally before we think.
Intentionally is always subjective.
Even objectivity can be selective when one believes in a certain perspective.

What if we don’t have any choice to stay away from difference.
What if the reality of the world reminds our ignorance and neglect,
and we don’t want to face it.
What if we do not want to recognize our privilege.

Can we cultivate genuineness to
connect with each other in this
distrustful and segregated society.
Be a bit more opened even we don’t see reasoning or logic.
Be curious with unfamiliarity.
Have a bit of trust in the goodness that others bring to us.

Connection can be much bigger than responsibility and obligations,
and it can be manifested in the smallest act of care and openness.
