Black Slavery

“The history of liberty is a history of resistance.” Woodrow Wilson (1912)

People comment,
‘You are neither a black nor a white person,
why do you care about black history?’
I want to care not only when I am involved with things, but also
I respect and care for another person just as a human being.

Because obviously there are
real life stories to be told.
Painful emotions to be expressed.
Undealt trauma to open up.
Unspoken interpersonal and cross-cultural segregation to address.

Across the painful black slavery history,
we shall not just recognize the darkness of the unjust, torture of the innocents,
but also celebrate the bravery, resilience and strength of the oppressed.
Wounds need to be healed,
but also we ought to cultivate positivity and strength to put down the remained of not the worsened inequality and ignorance.

“Slavery still exists.
Indeed, it is more diverse and entrenched than it ever was before.”
Gloria Steinem (2006)
