Being a Psychologist

Being a Psychologist

What does being a qualified psychologist mean?
A higher social status?
More income?
The better self-confidence?

I remembered the moment as I re-entered the University to pursue my psychologist training.
I felt l was entering a whole new world.
Four years later, I graduated and got a ‘Dr.’ title.
I was reluctant to celebrate the achievement,
as I saw the longer unknown road ahead.

Being qualified is not just about me fulfilling a milestone.
It is not about me being an amazing and proud person.
Instead of feeling festive and get goofy,
I recognize the weight of social obligation,
as my role is accountable to the wellbeing of someone,
and to constantly combat and advocate inequality in this society.

The question is,
‘Are we ready to bear this weight?’

I think no quote than Winston Churchill’s can describe what it means to become qualified.
“Now this is not the end.
It is not even the beginning of the end.
But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.”
